Nestled in a dense forest neighborhood of Atlanta, one would be forgiven for thinking this was a brand new house rather than an addition. The design takes advantage of the existing original brick house built in 1945 and the sunken living room which was added some years later, and brings it into this century with a new bedroom wing, covered porch, carport, and amenity rooms.
The previous mismatch of various roof pitches with dubious drainage have been replaced with a simple low slope roof that is easy to maintain and maximizes the ceiling heights while minimizing the apparent size of the house. The end result is something unrecognizable which feels nestled into the woods. It’s bright and open while remaining quiet and serene.
