Born Baby provides apparel, accessories, and gifts for parents of newborns as both a traditional storefront and online retailer. The brand has a clean, scandanavian inspired design and finds the balance between a clean neutral space and the softness you would anticipate for a store catering to newborns.
The project is located in a small 1950’s era existing retail building in the Buckhead Village of Atlanta. To compliment the client’s in-person and online business model, the project involves both a street facing storefront component and rear facing online-focused component distributed between two levels.
One of the primary objectives in the design was to create a strong street presence that brought ample light into the space, protected visitors from the elements, and created a storefront which clearly reflects the brand. The entry was relocated to better display the merchandise inside and the height of the windows and doors was increased to allow as much daylight into the space as possible. The new steel header channel created a unifying design element across the facade which anchors the signage and provides an invitingly curved steel plate awning. The exterior material palate included the simple painted steel, white stucco, wood-finish windows and doors, and full length planter. The overall effect is of a clean, inviting, and highly visible storefront that is both sophisticated yet playful and friendly.
